The RECkoning

The Reckoning - Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) 2021

    The Reckoning

Derived from First Nations understanding, The Reckoning is a work that seeks to address the intergenerational trauma of both the body and site through acknowledgement of Australia’s colonial history and the violent history imprinted on the bodies and spirits of First Nations people both in Australia and abroad. The Reckoning is a progressive and meditative ritual expressed through listening and contemplating the surrounding environment, connecting to Country and engaging with cultural knowledge. It also becomes an act of decolonisation, wherein performers go beyond the bounds of performance and its artefacts to produce an authenticity that acts as a spiritual quest for truth and knowledge.
