Jupiter Orbiting - PICA Interview
Jupiter Orbiting Full Length : Pass word on request
‘Jupiter Orbiting exits in the fuzzy space between mental and physical realities. It is a staging of spillage, with fantasy and corporeality colliding. An audio visual spectacle, a raw exploration into trauma, Jupiter Orbiting is transfixing, awe inspiring and devastating’- Theatre People
‘Pether takes his suffering and offers an insight into his own situation, thus creating an engrossing emotional work of art through his pain’ My Melbourne Arts
‘It’s difficult to decipher or uncover meaning in Pether’s creation, but this is not necessarily to its detriment. In fact it’s possible the show’s puzzling nature is what makes it so mesmerizing to witness’- Perth Arts Live
'After my encounter with Fist and Heel I realised that Pether’s, Randall’s and S.J. Norman’s worlds could only exist in this instance and the fractured past that each work referenced is what made them possible. The works of all three performers flourish in that same in-between world that Wilson articulated so beautifully. Their content alluded to a specific space and place and simultaneously transcended it. Their acts, so deceptively pedestrian at times, were also helping shape and re-energise the Australian Indigenous Dreaming scape for the future' - Vicki Van Hout FORM Dance Projects
Independent creator and performer of Kalkadoon heritage, Joshua Pether, takes us on a sci-fi adventure that opens up a new world filled with surreal and fantastical realities- questioning perceptions of what is real and what is not.
In his second solo work, Pether combines movement, sound and video to negotiate the hazy boundaries between fantasy, myth and truth. Charting experiences of isolation and distance, this physical and ritualistic performance negotiates personal identity and body politics. A simultaneously immersive and visceral experience for performer and audience alike, Jupiter Orbiting explores perceptions of trauma, mental health, empathy and self- destruction.
